Hollyhock residents compete in Family Steps Challenge

Fitness is a main focus for Hollyhock’s events and activities program for 2018, and the whole community got off to a fun and active start in January, with the kickoff of the Get Healthy at Hollyhock Steps Challenge.

Using the popular MoveSpring app, Hollyhock families are competing in various mini-challenges within the overall challenge, vying for great prizes and bragging rights.

The MoveSpring platform makes it easy for residents to track their progress, as well as that of their families and the community as a whole.

In addition to the health benefits, the challenge is also helping Hollyhock residents get to know each other better. It’s proving to a great conversation-starter as residents encounter each other out on the community’s trails, or walking around Fields Park and Dandelion Park. Right next door, miles of mountain bike trails at the Northwest Community Park site also welcome walkers.

Even if you don’t live at Hollyhock yet, it’s easy to create your own fitness challenge using the free MoveSpring app for Apple and Android devices.

Check out these great ideas for motivating everyone in the family, and FitBit offers these seven ways to win any steps challenge.

While counting steps might seem like a simple and obvious idea, stepping toward a goal can bring big benefits. Reaching 10,000 steps a day can burn up to 500 calories, which translates to losing one pound each week. Additional benefits include lower stress and blood pressure, improved sleep and reduced fatigue.
